Description: Demon Pond is based on a Meiji era fairy play. In autumn of 2005 Takashi Miike directed it as a highly successful kabukiesque (now there´s a nice word) stage play. The DVD version basically captures the stage production, though the performances have been rearranged a bit to work on film.
The story: Yamazawa, on a hike through the same woods that his friend Akira disappeared into two years before, comes upon a ruined temple on the banks of a curiously white river. A woman named Yuri comes outside offering a room at the temple for a story but, when the woman doesn't like the story, she runs away. When her husband comes outside to check on the commotion, lo and behold, it is Akira, who tells of why he dropped out of society. He has taken a job to ring the bell three times daily that, on the surface, appears to be a simple job that keeps him close to the beautiful Yuri. Legend, however, merges with reality as the tolling of the bell keeps the Dragon Princess in the pond at bay. If a single ring is missed, she will leap from the pond in the form of a flood to smite the village below. As the story moves from present to past and back again, we find the Dragon Princess cowed for centuries by her "aspects," which take the form of various fish, from seeing her love, the Serpent King. He lives in a larger lake in a different part of Japan and sent a letter expressing his desire for her. She is madly in love, but leaving Demon Pond means destroying the town below, a town her ancestors vowed to protect long ago. A young and brash dragon, however, she didn't make the vow and doesn't understand why she should keep it. This is paralleled in "reality." Drought has scourged the land below, leaving the townspeople starving and destitute. The think they have a solution, though. Historically, so they say, droughts have ended by humiliating a young girl and sacrificing her in the pond. Yuri is helpless to resist them, but Akira won't let that happen. To save Yuri, however, he would have to leave the bell silent, which would in turn kill the townspeople. Is the life of one worth the lives of many? Mortals and divine alike must make this decision.

While a student, Lotus studies ballet. The school principal notices her beauty and rapes her. When she protests, she is branded a slut and a counter- revolutionary, and sent to work in a factory. She develops a crush on a handsome worker there, Wu-Long, and gives him a pair of shoes. For this, she is again branded a slut and sent away. Lotus is reduced to scraping out a living selling fruit to tourists visiting Guangdong province. A short, somewhat comical man from Hong Kong notices her. They eventually marry, although Lotus does not love him, and she moves to Hong Kong. It turns out that her husband is very, very wealthy. All this time Lotus has been troubled by visions from her past; the film uses flashbacks to tell the story of the original Golden Lotus, which parallels that of the modern-day Lotus. Things take an interesting turn; Wu-Long, the man Lotus was in love with, works for her husband as a driver! Lotus tries to seduce him, but fails, for Wu-Long refuses to betray his boss, who is like a brother to him. Lotus eventually begins an affair with a designer, Simon Siu, who likes life in the fast lane (his interests include drugs and bondage), and the story continues from there.

Description: "Woman Sleeps With 250 Men In One Day". With this news headline the name of Annabel Chong has passed into legend and is the subject of this documentary. While the various sleaze-balls who appear may think that Lewis is doing them a favour, the end result is a damning expose of how a industry motivated purely by sex and money chewed up and spat out one of its biggest stars. Chong, real name Grace Quek, had only appeared in a couple of minor porn films before being plucked from obscurity by porn director John T. Bone to appear in a pet project he was working on. The World's Largest Gangbang would feature 300 men "passing through" (as he charmingly puts it) one woman and Annabel was his chosen star. In the end, she managed 251 men in ten hours before health fears brought proceedings to a premature halt. Despite being the star of the show, Chong quickly fell into a downward slide. Never paid for her work, she then left and then returned to porn after her parents (living in Singapore) discovered what their daughter had been doing without their knowledge. In truth, nobody comes out of this smelling of roses. Chong herself, while having a great body, has a face that is best suited to radio but her reckless attitude to life and other people is what damns her best. She appears, at times, selfish and cavalier towards anything thrown towards her and isn't too bothered about being screwed out of her money by Bone. Which suits him fine - Bone comes across as an uncaring, almost psychotic bastard, fawning over his star before and during the shoot and almost completely ignoring her afterwards. Chong herself looks a nervous wreck, smoking like a trooper in interviews and shaking like Ozzy Osbourne. The victim of a brutal gang rape while studying in London, Chong's porn career appears as another form of self-destruction. Chong's story is a tragic tale of depravity and exploitation.

Description: The wars of the film´s title are primarily those between a couple of young, sexually energized women who inhabit an apartment building on one side of an exposed concrete trench and an older woman they spy on across the divide through a telescope. Before she can even show up at the guy's apartment in her red Porsche (to match her coat, naturally) the dude's already been fucked up by Yuki, a mysterious woman linked to a uyoku dantai group. Do you lose Japanese ultraconservative points if your right-wing terror leader has dyed blonde hair? Hayami, a chainsmoking detective gets involved upon hearing the discouraging news from his boss that people killed by this woman may be linked to linked to a plot between the Japanese government and some Americans (of course evil by definition. I blame Bush for this) and does indeed get fucked up twice by the nefarious honkies when trying to question what looks like the first recruits to wander off the base.
