Description: Ah Jie lost everything in the stock market due to a severe economic crisis. Description: This is a beautiful film, visually as well as in content. It is shot stylishly in black and white and has a very timeless classic feel to it, with a bursting jazz soundtrack and the main action centring around the antiquated art of knife throwing. Daniel Auteuil is perfect and completely convincing as the knife thrower who rescues Adèle, a suicidal nymphomaniac, played by Vanessa Paradis, who is mesmerising in the title role. Gabor tells Adele that "the audience has to fall in love with you" and we all do. Every thud of the knife makes the pulse race, even when you know the outcome. In one gorgeous scene the pair do their act alone and it is so intimate and private but it's touching as well as sensual, which pretty much sums it up, beautiful, sexy and moving.

Description: I’ve had such a hard time figuring out how to describe Love Song for Rapper that I’m tempted to say, see the movie and we’ll talk about it after. It’s a crude, scruffy, handmade movie with no name recognition that came totally out of nowhere and ambushed me with its charms. It’s also darned near impossible to review, because it doesn’t anchor itself in any of the typical reference points a movie would use. I would tentatively call it a black comedy, but that would be at the expense of the movie’s genuinely sweet and heartfelt feeling; and if I called it a family drama that would ignore the major detours it takes into surrealism and David Lynch-ian left-hand paths. The only other film I have seen that compares even remotely to it is Christopher Doyle’s Away with Words, which also mixed surrealism and comedy.

Love Song for Rapper gives us a family living in modern Tokyo, a mother and two sons. One of the boys is an aspiring comic artist, and spends most of his days holed up in his room drawing and painting page after page of his masterwork. The other’s a minor-league baseball player, and like his brother, nothing exists for him outside of his little ambition. He plays, he comes home, he stuffs his face with cola and chips, and only deals with his brother as a nuisance and an obstacle. These scenes are hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time, like the one where the ballplaying brother angrily denounces Mom for spoiling his sibling—only then in the same breath to demand a new pair of running shoes.

When Nami is nearly raped by patients at the hospital, she runs off to find solace with Kenji. When she discovers Kenji is doing more than photography with his models, she takes off again, only to be hit by Muraki's car. At first he tries to help her, then he decides to take advantage of the unconscious woman.

For these two people, their accidental meeting will mark the start of a bizarre relationship that will either bring them to the heights of ecstasy, or plunge them deeper into despair.

S.S. Camp 5: Women's Hell (1977)

Filmed back-to-back with the less offensive (and far sillier) S.S. Experiment Love Camp, this Nazi sex-horror entry from director Sergio Garrone is more of the same, only with a heavier emphasis on rape, torture, and gore. Tongues are ripped out, fingernails pulled, abdomens shredded, and so on, culminating in the inevitable and somewhat disingenuous climactic uprising, which (as in American women's prison films) is somehow meant to excuse the parade of atrocities and smarmy exploitation which preceded it. Between the United States, Italy, and France, over two dozen Nazi sex-horror films were released between 1974-1978, and Garrone's are among the seediest of the lot.

Description: A group of provincial high school students, in Tokyo for their university entrance examinations, are thoroughly disillusioned with the older generation and see no hope for the future. They respond by going around singing dirty songs. A Korean prostitute teaches them that these songs are not only funny - they can be sad as well. Their fantasies have been centering around a rich girl they have seen. Now, still in fantasy, they set about killing her.

Four Japanese high junior school boys are obsessed with sex. They encounter their teacher out drinking and he sings/teaches a bawdy song about whose permission you need to ask before sleeping with a girl.

The drunk teacher accidentally dies, kicking off a more abstract round of imaginary acts oby the quartet, beginning with the rape of their female teacher in class while other students placidly watch. They incessantly chat about and imagine what they would do with their classmates.

The leader of the gang ties up with the teacher's girlfriend and that's when some of the most impressive imagery appears, during a party-funeral peppered with bawdy songs. The casket is draped in an American flag. The funeral devolves into a battle between those songs and religious ones, mirroring a battle between Japan and the US (or alternatively Korea).

Finding himself embarrassed by his awkward attempts at foreplay, they agree that they need to get to know each other better before committing themselves to the act of love. After arranging to meet again at a later date, the two of them begin tentatively discussing their pasts.
Shot in grainy 16mm monochrome, the film portrays a bleak and inhospitable world in which any chance of emotional connection is stifled by traditions and patterns of behaviour that are passed down from generation to generation. Shun's mother abandoned him in a reform school at an early age after marrying a boxer when his father died. He was taken in by a childless couple, though the adoption was never official. He now works as an apprentice metal worker for his foster father and spends his free days feeding the pigeons with his unlikely best friend, a five year old girl called Momi. Following a public lynching when his innocent intentions with the youngster are misinterpreted, he is sent off to a psychiatrist who reveals under hypnosis that Shun himself has been continuously molested by his foster father during his own upbringing. Though Shun initially seems unperturbed by Nanami's profession as a nude model posing for frustrated salarymen in Tokyo's Shinjuku district, a job which she took because it paid better than her previous post working in a factory, the seedy milieu in which she works remains threateningly alien to him as he skulks around it in order to get closer to her.

There is a strong sense of family among the girls in the house, and it is through their eyes we view numerous male clients. Kumashiro uses the camera cleverly to create a voyeuristic feel to the film, placing the viewer in dark spaces with a keyhole view of the intimate scenes unfolding in the rooms of the brothel. Un Posto ideale per uccidere (1971) aka Oasis of fear

Plot:
A care free hippie couple, Dick and Ingrid are on vacation to Italy with a mission to bring the sexual revolution to that staunchly conservative Catholic country. Soon however they run into several problems. First, they are arrested for selling pornographic pictures of themselves and given three days to leave the country. Then they stay with a group of hippies and are robbed blind. And then lastly they stumble upon a mansion after running out of gas where a very rich and eccentric woman resides. At first their meeting is awkward, but soon they are having quite the party. As it turns out though the woman has killed her husband as is setting up the kids to take the blame in an elaborate plan.

Excellent character driven giallo.

Description: This film is rather difficult to review because it doesn't really have a plot to speak of, and it's clear that director Catherine Breillat was more keen on focusing on the art elements and detailing the sexual developments of a young girl than telling a story. This is the first film I've seen from Catherine Breillat, but given what I've read about her; it would seem that she enjoys directing films that focus on sexuality, and that would seem to be the case if this film is anything to go by. A Real Young Girl focuses on Alice Bonnard, a 'well developed' teenager who attends a boarding school and is spending the summer at her parents' house. She enjoys experimenting, and has a particular fascination with fluids, as she experiments with all sorts including urine and ear wax, as well as egg yolk and tanning cream. She becomes fixated on a man employed by her father, as well as a couple of other local men and her father, and the film basically follows her summer as things happen to her parents and she develops sexually.

Unlike most exploitation films, this one takes place from the woman's point of view, although the idea that all men are sex-obsessed perverts certainly shines through, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Catherine Breillat is a devout feminist, as there isn't one single decent male character in the whole film. The film rests a lot on its star Charlotte Alexandra, and she doesn't disappoint. Her performance is thoroughly realistic, and she also looks rather tasty, which is sure to delight the male viewers. I have to admit that I was expecting to be shocked going into the film, and while A Real Young Girl is liable to offend less well versed viewers; it would seem I've seen too much of this stuff as nothing in the film seemed too over the top to me. Catherine Breillat clearly isn't afraid to shock the viewers, however, as the film features plenty of nudity and other perverse scenes. The film features no suspense and the plot really just plods along, but it's well paced and while you know that the ending isn't going to provide much intrigue, it doesn't matter as anyone looking for a sexually charged film is likely to be satisfied.

Bizarre horror with lots of scorpion attacks!

'Red Spell Spells Red', whatever that's supposed to mean, begins in the past where a masked dwarf sorcerer (the actor doesn't' seem to be suffering from dwarfism at all!?) is practicing magic that makes a gold figure flow in the air and such. Suddenly he is surrounded by four do-good'rs with negro mask's on! After a lot of crazy fighting dubbed with weird child-laughter, the intruders finally stab the evil sorcerer and force him down huge clay jay for good. Or that's what they thought. Years later the peace is broken as a TV-crew who, despite warnings, visits the cave to shoot a documentary about magic in the ancient China. The find the jar unaware of it's secret and as they open it the dark room is filled with pink smoke! The crew split, some take home to edit the footage and the rest, including the pretty speaker-girl, stay in the local village. On the version I saw of 'Red Spell Spells Red' the subs were often unreadable so I am not sure if I have understood all of it correctly. But many strange horrors

start to happen in the village. Some of the crew members are killed in various gory ways by invisible forces! And the small community is suddenly under constant attack of scorpions! A grave paranoia spreads and leads to lots of sacrifices and pursuit of the foreigners. There is a good doze of animal-killings, scorpions are stomped on, pigs are throat-sliced and there is a cock-fight too, enough to turn off some viewers. There is also some fairly well-crafted special effects though. At each scene the movie turn a little more bizarre. It shows that it actually is the speaker-girl who unwilling gives birth to the scorpion-swarms from a wound in her side! The released spirit of the dwarf sorcerer not only kills, but are also able to possess peoples minds, even through are not only able to possess people and make them killing-machines, he can also possess the TV-studio's equipment through the footage he accidentally was caught on! Only another sorcerer, a skull and some Shaolin monks can save the world again!

Ghost story, possession, animal attack and body-horror wrapped in one!? A hefty cocktail I must say! The typical Asian slapstick and the romance elements doesn't' make it all less strange! Is the director a talentless nutball or did he know exactly what he were doing? That's one thing I though about while watching 'Red Spell Spells Red'. He has definitely hit the head of the nail somehow. It is hard to explain. If you, like Me, get your kicks on bizarre trash cinema and far-out Hong Kong horror in general, this is a recommended view.

Openly disdainful of authority in general and his superiors specifically Hanzo is a hard boiled anti-hero in the Clint Eastwood / Charles Bronson mold. His only concern is the well being of the common man and he will use any means necessary to achieve his ends, trampling over jurisdictional boundaries, willingly torturing suspects and using his own special techniques to extract information from the ladies. His sexual prowess seems a clear - though far more extreme - nod to the Bond films of the day, as does his supply of hidden weapons and wildly booby-trapped home. Throw in a funk-based soundtrack and you've got a bizarre stew of ingredients that could only have come together in the seventies. Need a quick and dirty reference point? Hanzo is the Japanese answer to Shaft.

The film opens as two men discover a female ghost at a local fishing spot. Hanzo goes to investigate and finds a masquerading female culprit and as a bonus he finds bamboo filled with gold at the bottom of the river. As he begins his standard “sexual interrogation” of the female criminal, they are interrupted by a group of ninjas that kill the woman before he an get all the information she has about the gold.

Hanzo is going to have to work overtime before his solves this mystery. Before things are said and done, he is going to find out all about the gold and learn some disturbing facts about the Shogunate.

"Shocking Asia 3" isn't too outrageous considering its subject matter,but it's pretty sleazy as we are visiting Japanese sex shops,brothels and night clubs.There is some strong sex(nearly hard core)on display,body piercing etc.This shockumentary is set mostly in Japan-I'm still pretty amazed that Japanese people,albeit really hard-working and kind,can be also so extreme.I'd love to visit this brilliant country one day.To sum up,if you like mondo give this one a look.

Teruo Ishii's extremely provocative movie set in the 1600 in feudal Japan. 3 short stories dealing with punishment and torture. The first deals with incest where a woman is beaten and tortured to death for having an affair with her dying brother. The second is about lesbian nuns and the third story shows a crazy tattoo artist who kidnaps a woman to use as his canvas. Even though this movie is over 35 years old, the effects and the gore are amazing! Humans burned at barbeques, decapitations and more torture than you could possibly wish for makes this classic videonasty a must have for all fans of good and gory movies!

"Mil Sexos Tiene La Noche" is yet another first-rate Jess Franco film, again shot on a very low budget with the director getting the maximum from the location, his photography, and his stable of actors. Much of the film appears to have been filmed in or near a hotel, a common staple of many Franco films, and to keep the viewer's eyes from being bored by all of the darkness Franco treats us to beautifully-filmed bodies of water, bodies of lovemakers, flower gardens, indoor scenery, and human silhouettes. Other than Franco, the other strong element of the film is Lina Romay, who, as usual, gives a performance so convincing and thoughtful you'd think her life was at stake if she failed to deliver. She goes from being dowdy and frumpy in some scenes to being a sometimes frightened, sometimes stunningly beautiful protagonist. As this film is a remake of Franco's "Voodoo Passion" (1977) the plot is not difficult to comprehend, and non-Spanish-speaking viewers should not be offput because 64 of the film's 92 minutes have no dialog whatsoever. This was probably filmed simultaneously with Franco's "Historia Sexual de O" as, in the opening scene of "Mil Sexos . . ." three of the actors are wearing the same clothes they wear in the menacing dinner-table scene of "Historia Sexual. . ." Carmen Carrion and Daniel Katz, who appear in both films, are perfectly cast as totally evil users of the weaker-minded in both films, and both deliver suitably frightening performances.
